Have you ever tried to do something challenging, like solving a tough math problem or learning a new skill? You might have thought, “Why is this so hard?” That’s because chasing big goals, or ideals, isn’t always easy. But here’s the cool part: trying makes you stronger.
Let’s consider how.
What Is an Ideal?
An ideal is a big idea or goal we pursue. Think about kindness, honesty, or being the best version of yourself. These are ideals. They guide us to make good choices, even when it’s hard.
But guess what? We’re not perfect! Sometimes, we make mistakes. And that’s okay, because Ideals aren’t about being perfect—they’re about trying to be better.
Why Should We Follow Ideals?
Think about a soccer game. The goal is to score, right? But you don’t always win. Does that mean you stop playing? No! You keep going, you keep putting in the effort because the goal gives you something to strive for.

Ideals work the same way. They help you grow, learn, and make the world a better place. For example:
- When you show kindness, you help people around you feel happy.
- When you practice honesty, people trust you more.
- When you pursue learning, you discover amazing things about the world.
The Big Secret
Even the greatest people—scientists, artists, and explorers—don’t always reach their ideals. Albert Einstein didn’t get every answer right the first time. Famous inventors like Thomas Edison failed hundreds of times before creating something amazing.
What matters is that they didn’t give up. They kept working toward their ideals, and they made incredible things happen.
What Can You Do?

For starters, you have to start small!
- Be curious: Ask questions about the world around you.
- Be brave: Try something new, even if it feels scary.
- Be kind: Smile at a friend or help someone in need.
When you keep chasing ideals, you’ll grow into the best version of yourself. Sure, you’ll make mistakes. But remember, it’s all part of the journey.
So, what’s your ideal? How will you start working toward it today?
