IBS College of TVET was proud to see one of its employees, Kenneth Japeth, graduate yesterday, Wednesday 18 December 2024, with a Certificate III and Certificate IV in Information Technology (IT). Kenneth’s journey is all about hard work, determination, and making the most of opportunities.
A young man from Enga Province, Kenneth, started his journey in 2021 after finishing Grade 12 at Porgera Secondary School. With dreams of continuing his studies, he couldn’t pursue them right away. Instead of giving up, he made a brave decision to leave his home province and come to Port Moresby to look for opportunities to achieve his goals.
Kenneth arrived in the capital city in 2022, full of hope but unsure of what the future held. After a year of searching for work, he eventually got a job as a gardener and cleaner at IBS College of TVET, which was located at 6 Mile, Port Moresby, in January 2023. His hard work and dedication quickly gained the attention of the management, who saw his potential.
Recognizing Kenneth’s desire to further his education, the management at IBS College of TVET allowed him to study for his Certificate III and Certificate IV in Information Technology while continuing to work. Arrangements were made for him to balance his studies with his job responsibilities. His work schedule was adjusted to fit his classes—his gardening tasks were moved to Fridays, while during the week, he took on various roles. These included assisting the IT officer, working in the library, helping with cleaning, and doing administrative tasks.
Balancing work and study wasn’t easy, but Kenneth quickly learned how to manage his time and stay dedicated. It was this ability to balance both that allowed him to succeed both in his studies and his job.
He offers inspiring words to others who may be in a similar situation: “Take every opportunity that comes your way, and never be ashamed of the job you’re offered. Be hardworking, and build your dreams from there.”
Kenneth’s story shows how hard work, perseverance, and the support of a unified community can guide lives, staying true to the theme of the IBS College of TVET Graduation for this year, “Inspiring Excellence, Transforming Lives.” This story encourages us to have patience and trust that success can be achieved with determination and the willingness to take chances.
