[IBS College of TVET, Mt. Eriama, Port Moresby] – February 13, 2025 – Day 2 of the IBS College of TVET Batch 1 Induction program (February 12-14, 2025) shone a spotlight on academics.  New students got a closer look at their chosen programs and connected with the faculty who will guide them. The day was filled with learning, exploration, and getting ready for the exciting year ahead.

The afternoon began with a session led by Mr. Airi from Student Affairs. He shared some really important info about student life at IBSCTVET – things like support services, clubs, and ways to get involved on campus. From the outside looking in, one could say that it was all about making sure students have what they need to be successful, both in and out of the classroom.

Then, the students split up to learn more about their specific programs. Each department held its own session, giving students a chance to meet their teachers and get a real feel for what their studies will involve.

For the accounting certificate courses, Mr. Jack Marme and his team talked about the accounting program. They went over what students will learn, what kind of jobs are out there, and what’s happening in the accounting world right now. It was a great way for future accountants to get excited about their field.

Following solidly was Business and HR, where Mr. Gutuma Gima and his team led the session for business and HR students. They explained the programs in detail which included a well-structured outline of the skills that are super important for success in business and HR. Students got a good sense of what it takes to make it in these fields.

With IT, Ms. Stephanie Heritrenggi and her team welcomed the IT students. They showed off some of the latest tech and talked about all the different career paths available in IT.  It was inspiring to see how many opportunities are out there for tech-savvy students.

These program-specific sessions were a chance for students to ask questions, meet their instructors, and get a clear picture of what to expect in their courses. It’s a big step in making the transition from high school (or wherever they were before) to college life.

After all the academic sessions, Ms. Camilla Kukuma handed out Batch 1 schedules and other important papers. This is when things start to feel real! Students now have their class times and know what their semester will look like. They can start picturing themselves in the classroom and getting ready to learn.

And, of course, more ID photo sessions were happening with Mr. Conrad Barilla and Mr. Airi Pegi. Gotta have that student ID!

The Induction program wraps up on February 14th, with more activities planned.  IBS College of TVET is committed to giving students a great start to their education. These first few days are all about making students feel welcome, informed, and ready to take on the challenges and opportunities ahead. We want them to feel like they’re part of the IBSCTVET family and that they have all the support they need to succeed. We’re excited to see what they accomplish!
